Double Diamond

My design process is loosely based on the double-diamond design process. It is iterative in nature, meaning an initiative can easily cycle back and forth through the steps based on new research or changes in the product team’s roadmap prioritizations.

Larger initiatives (e.g. a new feature set with large-scale impact across the product) may need more lead time to allow UX to complete the full Discover/Define/Design/(re)Design process.

Smaller initiatives that need UX (e.g. a change in written copy for an error message) may only need to go through the Define/Design steps.

My experience leading this process has kept UX top of mind with engineering and leadership teams.

Reach out via email and I’ll discuss my process in more detail.

Software

At TextUs, Figma is my go-to design tool for streamlining my design process and enhancing remote collaboration with my product and engineering team. Here are some of the ways I use it on a daily basis:

  • Wireframing: I generally utilize FigJam tools to quickly brainstorm and create preliminary wireframes, which enables quick idea iteration and fosters more seamless engagement from stakeholders.

  • Components: Design custom UI components using the Material Design framework and reuse them across all platforms for new & redesign projects to save time and maintain consistency.

  • Prototyping: Built-in prototyping tools that allow me to create interactive prototypes of my mocks. I use prototypes to test usability, gain valuable feedback from users, and identify any issues before starting to code.

  • Handoff: Figma makes it easy to hand off my designs to developers. I generate design specs that include all the necessary information such as colors, typography, and measurements.

TextUs Employee Spotlight

My senior product designer and I had an informative Q&A about all things UX with our SaaS company. We dive into our roles, UXer’s importance in product development, and how we move the needle on the product roadmap and feature prioritization.

ADPList Design Community

When I was starting out, I found ADPList to be an invaluable resource for connecting with experienced designers who were willing to offer guidance and support, which has inspired me to pay it forward by mentoring others in return.
